Mavs vs. Hornets 5 of 82

This will be a tough game for the Mavs for several reasons.
1. its a B2B with travel
2. the Mavs had to play their starters to the end last night
3. Dirk had to leave it all out there in the 4th qtr last night.
4. We are still w/out Jho and likely Ross.

On the brighter side the Hornets are struggling. They have not played well this season and CP3 is a bit unhappy with the off season moves or lack there of and how the current team is constructed.

Don't know how tonights game will go. My gut feeling is that we will struggle and likely lose but i also thought that we were doomed in the 4th last night. So we shall see.

Lets Go Mavs!

Forum: General Mavs Talk

If Ross cannot go tonight due to a sore back, I say start Roddy. It's the back end of a back to back so give some 'spark'. I'd keep JJB as Kidd's backup and keep Jet as the 6th man. Let Kidd start off guarding the SG and let Roddy see if he can keep in front of Paul. Worst case, Roddy picks up some quick fouls or is ineffective, at which point you bring in Jet. Who else are we gonna start at SG with Ross and JHo out?
Paul is going to get his anyways, so let's see if Roddy's quickness can bother him a little.

Thoughts?

Forum: General Mavs Talk

Well it was a pretty horrible looking start for the first 7 minutes. But the pace has picked up a little since.

Kidd makes a nice steal and he makes a 3.

Boozer gets his 2nd foul.

If we run them they will be tired by the 4th.

Forum: General Mavs Talk

Jazz get drilled last night in Houston by 17 and come to Dallas today to face a well rested Mavs Team.

Logically speaking the Mavs should beat the Jazz and be able to rest the starters a little in preparation for the Hornets tomorrow night.

And speaking of the Horntets, what's up with them. The gave up 40 points in the 4th qtr last night to the KNICKS and lost again.

Forum: General Mavs Talk

Redd out two weeks

Dallas over LA? Why are y'all suprised.

Remember when the Lakers beat Dallas in all 3 meetings last year? Remember? Remember those Laker blowouts? Right, there weren't any.

Two things I noticed about the Lakers last night that aided Dallas' win:

1. Gasol. The Lakers miss that big, long body that can do it from the inside and out.

2. Trevor Arriza. The Lakers miss that big, long body that can do it from the inside and out.

Dallas played well, especailly on the perimeter D. The Gasol factor can be erased because Howard was out. But LA misseses Arriza. His body used to give Dallas fits. Artest my turn out to be good if he doesn't spaz out, but losing Arriza may ultimately do this Lakers team in.

***Dallas vs LA and A&M vs Tech. That's why you PLAY the game.

Forum: General Mavs Talk

Picked up Bill Simmons new book "the book of basketball" this week. It is 700 pages so I will try to read it in different sittings over the next few months. It has a detailed breakdown of his top 96 players in history. I was just flipping through it and he had Nash listed as the 38th greatest player ever and Dirk listed as the 37th greatest player ever. Each player has a several page writeup. Not a bad draft getting those two, huh?

Kidd was ranked in the 40's.

Forum: General Mavs Talk

Trade Gooden

Not to be too reactionary from the first game, but it may be time to look at the potential mid-season Gooden trade. Drew is not a center and to think he will fill that role is crazy. What teams would be interested in the cost savings by acquiring him for the second half of the season and cutting him at the end of the year? What legit center could we get back as we hopefully push towards the playoffs?
Forum: General Mavs Talk
