Howard for Martin

I know that both are injured right now but with the way Evans is asserting himself in Martin's absence and the depth the Mavs now have with Marion this might be something worth looking at.

Sure the Mavs lose some on defense but they gain substantially on offense and get a true shooting guard with extensive range.

Martin is still young and very valuable but if you are the Kings do you want your top two players to play the same position?

It would work right now as a trade.

Forum: General Mavs Talk

Is Dirk Better Than Ever?

After watching yet another game where Dirk dominated the game on both ends of the floor in the fourth quarter (and overtime) and scored the game-winning points, it has settled in a little bit for me that Dirk is playing the best basketball of his life. It seems that most people had resolved themselves to the idea that Dirk is on the decline. It appears that Dirk is still peaking.

In every game that I have watched this season, Dirk has been one of the Mavs' best defenders. He showed that again tonight by stonewalling Duncan late in overtime with the score going back and forth...and then subsequently hitting the game winner on the other end.

Dirk is averaging 27.9 ppg, 9.2 rebounds, 1.7 blks, and 1.1 stls

Forum: General Mavs Talk

New Rotation?

I think with the performance of Bobo on this road trip I predict Carlisle will play him a lot more and a lot more in crunch time as long Jho is out. JJ will get less minutes in favor of Bobo and that is a good thing.

Prediction: Mavs Drill the Spurs on Wednesday by double digits.

Forum: General Mavs Talk

Dirk is now a complete player

Now that I post this, he'll probably lay a stinker and get posterized by some no-name guy tonight.

But if you have been watching the Mavs over the past two seasons, you have seen a Nowitzki who now takes the defensive challenge seriously. He has improved his man defense dramatically. It has been funny to watch because the opposing coaches still like to isolate against him until they find out that he can hold his own. He's legitimately 7 feet and can move well for a big...he's hard to score on unless you're a quick guard and that doesnt always end up in points against Dirk anymore either.

This year I have seen Dirk be effective in a way that he never has been before: help defense. Dirk is rotating to help out at the rim and he's coming away with blocked shots.

Forum: General Mavs Talk

Jet sums it up - Motivation

Quote:

"Our biggest hurdle is when we have an opportunity to seize the moment, we don't be the aggressor," Jason Terry said. "We kind of wait for things to happen. Once we get over that hurdle, then we're going to be a championship team.

"But until we get that killer instinct and get that swagger like nobody can touch us -- which they can't when we play the right way -- we're going to struggle."

This was said after the humiliating loss at San Antonio where it looked like the Mavs had other things to do that night instead of playing the basketball game.

It is apparent that the Mavs have a motivation problem. Carlisle has called the team out publicly regarding this issue on more than one occasion.

Forum: General Mavs Talk

Okafor, 62 million next 5 years, is he worth going for and if so what would you give up for him and would you take on anymore baggage if you did.

In effect, if you got him now you would, probable be giving up any bird in the bush for next season, but a front line of Dirk, Marion and Okafor for the next five years might be worth it. Would taking on Stojakovic make it to expensive, what if they would talk Carroll in return.

There is a rumor Hornets are talking about a salary dump for Okafor, that is why I am bring it up and because, unless we get Bosh who do we get to replace Dustbuster in the middle and do we really want to figure the Mavs will really get one of the super Stern Stars next summer?

Forum: General Mavs Talk

Mavs vs. Spurs 8 of 82

Mavs on a B2B with short travel. Spurs are likely short handed perhaps without Parker or Duncan?

Spurs gave up a ton of points to Toronto the other night and since we just played them perhaps you can take something from that?

The way i see it is that if Parker is out the Mavs should beat them easily even on a B2B. If Parker plays it looks even to me since we could be a little tired.

Forum: General Mavs Talk

The J-Ho Effect

So Josh Howard has been back in the lineup now for 2 games: Toronto and Houston.

In those 2 games we are averaging 125 points a game and have beaten both opponents by at least 18 points.

What conclusions can we draw from this?

Are we that much better offensively? Does he make everyone around him that much better? Is the lineup with him at the 2 gaurd almost unstoppable?

Is the starting lineup of: Kidd, Jho, Marion, Dirk & Damp the best starting 5 we have ever had?

Forum: General Mavs Talk
